CJ Suspension: Supreme Court’s 3-2 ruling shows our case had merit – Vincent Assafuah

Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah reacted to the Supreme Court's ruling. The court decided 3-2 against his injunction application. He believes this shows strong legal reasoning behind his arguments.

After the ruling on May 6, Assafuah spoke to journalists. He noted that the close split among justices indicates merit in his case. "It is not the end of the road," he said. He wants to review the court's reasoning first.

Assafuah filed an injunction against petitions to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. His goal was to stop the President from referring these petitions due to constitutional concerns.

The court dismissed his application by a majority vote of three to two. Justices Mensah Bonsu and Ernest Gaewu disagreed, showing a split opinion.

Before dismissing the main application, the court addressed an objection from Godfred Dame. He argued that Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie had a conflict of interest. The court rejected this claim, allowing Baffoe-Bonnie to participate.

Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem Sai opposed Dame’s objection in court. He stated that senior judges must fulfill their roles despite speculative claims.

Despite losing, Assafuah plans to study the justices' reasoning carefully. "The decision is not the final word yet," he said, hinting at possible future actions.
