CLOGSAG urges Mahama to withdraw Births and Deaths Registrar’s appointment

Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has called on President John Mahama to revoke the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

CLOGSAG argues that his selection contradicts a 2017 Supreme Court ruling that prohibits political interference in civil service appointments.

Addressing staff in Accra, Deputy Executive Secretary Kojo Krakani emphasized that appointing known political figures threatens the neutrality of the service.

Botchway, a former NDC District Chief Executive, is seen as a partisan choice. CLOGSAG warns of a possible strike if its concerns are ignored.

The association previously challenged similar appointments in court, stressing the need for civil service autonomy in such decisions.
