The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) is now in its third month of public consultations. The committee has made significant progress in engaging the public.
So far, the 8-member committee has held 12 thematic stakeholder engagements. They have also conducted 5 meetings with identifiable interest groups and 8 sessions with eminent persons. These efforts aim to gather input on potential reforms to the 1992 Constitution.
All engagements have been live-streamed for transparency and public access. The discussions cover key national issues such as land, natural resources, local government, and decentralization. Other topics include public services, political transitions, political parties, and anti-corruption.
Upcoming engagements will focus on chieftaincy and citizenship. The committee has met with business and labor unions, academia, military, police, and media representatives. Additional consultations are planned with traditional leaders and religious institutions.
The committee has also consulted prominent figures like former Presidents John Mahama and John Kufuor. Other notable individuals include Speaker Alban Bagbin and former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo. More engagements with these figures are scheduled for the coming weeks.
Zonal public forums will take place in major cities like Accra, Wa, Bolgatanga, Tamale, Sunyani, Kumasi, Koforidua, Cape Coast, Takoradi, and Ho. An online session for the Ghanaian diaspora is also being organized.
Specific dates for these zonal meetings will be announced soon. Additionally, the committee will host an X Space discussion on May 19 at 7:00 PM. This event will be moderated by social media influencer Kaly Jay.
The CRC continues to invite written submissions from individuals and organizations. Interested parties can email their memos to [email protected].
