The Ghana Police Service has restored calm in Ejura after a mob attacked the Ejura Police Station early on January 11, 2025. The unrest followed the arrest of a suspect on January 10 for alleged theft.
Detained overnight, the suspect complained of illness around 2:20 am and was rushed to the Ejura Government Hospital, where he later died.
As arrangements were being made to transfer the body for autopsy, some community members stormed the police station, setting it ablaze, and forcibly retrieved the body from the hospital.
The police, aided by opinion leaders and military reinforcements, managed to de-escalate tensions with no casualties reported.
The Ghana National Fire Service extinguished the fire at the station. Investigations are underway to uncover the full circumstances of the incident.
