Chairman Wontumi visits NPP National Executives after EOCO bail release

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He recently met with national party leaders in Accra. This meeting occurred days after his release from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Wontumi was released on Monday, June 2. He met bail conditions set at GHS50 million. His arrest happened on Tuesday, May 27. It is part of ongoing investigations into fraud and money laundering allegations.

Despite these serious charges, many NPP officials showed their support for Wontumi. He continues to have backing from several national executives.

Before his release, legal expert Martin Kpebu spoke out about the case. He criticized EOCO for its lack of transparency regarding the charges against Wontumi.

Kpebu stated that an institution led by a journalist should provide better information. He emphasized that EOCO should explain why Wontumi is being charged. His comments raise concerns about accountability in law enforcement, especially in politically sensitive cases.
