Fred Kwesi Agbenyo, the MP for Guan, has a new idea. He suggests repurposing the stalled National Cathedral project. Instead of a cathedral, he proposes converting it into apartments for public sector workers.
His comments come after Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's recent remarks. The former Vice President acknowledged that the incomplete project upset many Ghanaians. He noted that $58 million in public funds had been spent on it. This issue contributed to the NPP’s electoral defeat.
On Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Agbenyo criticized the project as a financial mistake. He urged President John Dramani Mahama to find a better use for the site. “$58 million has gone down the drain,” he said.
Agbenyo offered a solution: “Let us get some investors.” He suggested converting the site into apartments for workers. Staff from Ridge Hospital and ministry employees could live there.
His remarks contribute to ongoing debates about the project's future. Critics have raised concerns over its cost, transparency, and national priorities since it began.
