Tongues are wagging within the Council of State. Insiders call it a shocking betrayal. Veteran National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Alhaji Said Sinare was removed from an ambassadorial appointment.
Alhaji Sinare was among 22 nominees presented to the Council on April 17, 2025. His name was suddenly dropped and replaced by his cousin, actress Kalsoume Sinare. This decision stunned many members of the Council and party supporters.
One senior source described it as “a painful slap in the face of loyalty.” They noted that Alhaji Sinare has served the NDC for decades. Replacing him with a family member is seen as deeply insulting.
Alhaji Sinare previously served as Ghana’s Ambassador to Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He is respected for mobilizing support for the NDC, especially in Zongo communities. His grassroots campaigning earned him a reputation as a reliable operative.
“He toured over 4,000 Zongo communities using his own funds,” said a source close to the Council. “Seeing his name struck out for someone without his pedigree is heartbreaking.” They warned this could create tension within their family.
The ambassadorial list included prominent names like Baba Jamal and Victor Smith. Council members lobbied hard for Alhaji Sinare’s inclusion due to his political contributions during elections. However, internal maneuvering reportedly influenced the final decision.
Many believe this move shows nepotism and undermines meritocracy within the party. “There are those who chase media attention and those who do real work,” lamented one source about Alhaji Sinare's sidelining.
Party insiders warn that this removal has sparked discontent in Zongo communities. Alhaji Sinare is seen as a symbol of representation and trust there. His absence risks alienating crucial voters who consistently support the NDC.
Senior NDC member Alhaji Fuseini called it “a miscalculation with potentially serious consequences.” He emphasized that Sinare’s contributions are vital to the party’s credibility today.
Pressure is mounting on President John Dramani Mahama and party leadership to revisit this decision. Calls for transparency and fairness in appointments are growing louder amid fragile party unity.
“This cannot be swept under the carpet,” warned a senior party figure. Ignoring loyal members could spell disaster for future victories.
Efforts to reach Alhaji Said Sinare for comment were unsuccessful at this time. The storm from his removal continues to grow, leaving NDC leadership with no choice but to respond soon.
