The Kumasi High Court has acquitted Alexander Kwabena Sarfo-Kantanka. He was the nominee for Juaben Municipal Chief Executive under Former President Akufo-Addo.
He faced 26 corruption charges related to a public election. The court cited a lack of evidence for vote buying.
These charges arose from a viral video in 2021. The video allegedly showed Mr. Sarfo-Kantanka asking assembly members for refunds after his nomination failed.
He reportedly gave money to some assembly members to secure their votes. This claim led to an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor and his arrest in May 2022.
On Friday, Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori delivered the ruling. She noted that while the video showed Mr. Sarfo-Kantanka upset, it did not prove bribery.
