The High Court in Accra has scheduled March 27, 2025, to decide whether Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson should open his defence in the case where he is accused of deceiving a public officer to obtain a Ghanaian passport.

The ruling, initially expected on March 3, was delayed after the Office of the Attorney-General failed to meet the court’s deadline to file written arguments.

The prosecution has now been given until the end of Tuesday to submit its written address.

Quayson, who faces charges of forgery and perjury linked to his 2020 parliamentary election candidacy, has pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution alleges he falsely declared that he did not hold another country’s passport when applying for a Ghanaian passport and misrepresented his allegiance status to the Electoral Commission.

The prosecution closed its case on February 12, 2025, after presenting six witnesses, prompting the court to request written submissions on whether a case has been established against Quayson.
