The High Court in Accra has set March 3 to decide whether Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson, should open his defence in his forgery and perjury case.
The ruling follows the prosecution’s closure of its case after recalling its fifth witness.
Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh directed both defence and state attorneys to submit written arguments within two weeks.
Quayson is accused of falsely declaring his citizenship status in his 2020 election nomination forms.
A prosecution witness claimed investigations revealed Quayson held both Ghanaian and Canadian citizenship at the time.
However, his lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata, challenged the witness’s expertise on Canadian law.
Quayson has pleaded not guilty to all charges, including forgery, perjury, and false declaration for office.
