The High Court of Justice Criminal Division 2 has withdrawn a bench warrant. This warrant was issued against the Director of Passports on May 16, 2025.
Justice Marie-Louise Simmons presided over the hearing on May 19, 2025. The Director of Passports was absent but represented by Deputy Director Mawuli Klu.
Legal representation came from Hackman Khalilah and Evelyn Rita Kpobi. They are from the Legal and Treaties Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Counsel explained that the Director's absence was not contempt. It was due to unavoidable internal circumstances.
The legal team assured full cooperation with ongoing trials. They emphasized their commitment to working with the judiciary.
After hearing this, Justice Simmons ruled to withdraw the warrant. She cited the Ministry’s assurance to comply with court orders.
However, the court required clarification on a letter dated April 4, 2025. This must be provided through a report in the court registry.
