Dafeamekpor files defamation suit against Ntim Fordjour over bribery claims

Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, the MP for South Dayi, is suing Rev. John Ntim Fordjour. Fordjour is the MP for Assin South. Dafeamekpor claims a social media post harmed his reputation.

The lawsuit relates to a post by Fordjour on May 8, 2025. He posted on platform X (formerly Twitter). In this post, he accused Dafeamekpor of being involved in a payment scheme. This occurred while Dafeamekpor was Vice Chairman of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee.

Fordjour alleged that GH¢360,000 was paid to the committee by Kwabena Adu-Boahene. Adu-Boahene is the former head of the National Signals Bureau (NSB). The payment aimed to facilitate passing a Legislative Instrument (L.I.).

Adu-Boahene faces charges for misappropriating GH¢49.1 million. He has defended some actions by citing payments made during legislative processes. These include GH¢960,000 and GH¢309,000 to two parliamentary committees.

In his post, Fordjour called for an investigation into Dafeamekpor and others. He claimed this probe would reveal corruption within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dafeamekpor responded by filing a defamation suit against Fordjour. He denies all allegations and calls them “false, malicious, and defamatory.” His court filing states these accusations harmed his reputation and caused emotional distress.

“The Plaintiff avers that the statements made by the Defendant were deliberately false,” the suit claims. It argues they aimed to portray him as corrupt and complicit in bribery.

Dafeamekpor seeks a retraction and public apology from Fordjour. He also wants an injunction preventing further defamatory statements from him or his affiliates. Additionally, he requests an order to remove the original post from social media.

This lawsuit occurs as legal proceedings against Adu-Boahene continue. The case is set to resume on May 26 for a management conference.
