District Assemblies to receive GH¢25m in 2025 – Finance Minister

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced new funding for District Assemblies. Each assembly will receive at least GH¢25 million in 2025. This initiative aims to boost local economic development and decentralisation.

Dr. Forson addressed Parliament on June 3. He stated that about GH¢6.1 billion of the GH¢7.57 billion budgeted for 2025 will go directly to local assemblies. This funding is intended to stimulate economic activities at the district level.

He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring these funds are used effectively. The goal is to align spending with national economic objectives.

This announcement follows criticism from the Minority in Parliament. They accused the Finance Minister of withholding funds from essential government institutions. They claim this has occurred despite legal obligations and available resources.

The initiative aims to promote inclusive growth and strengthen local governance. It also supports the Mahama administration’s efforts to revitalize the economy from the grassroots level.
