Dollar gift saga: I would've fired Sammy Gyamfi If I were president - Kennedy Agyapong

Former Assin Central lawmaker Kennedy Ohene Agyapong criticized President John Dramani Mahama. He spoke about the Sammy Gyamfi dollar gift controversy.

In a viral video, Sammy Gyamfi gave US dollars to Patricia Asiedu Asiamah. She is known as Nana Agradaa or Evangelist Mama Pat. This raised concerns about possible Foreign Exchange Act violations and ethics.

Sammy Gyamfi responded to the criticism. He called the moment a private act of kindness that became public. He said it was part of his habit of helping those in need.

President Mahama announced no further action against the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. However, Agyapong believes Gyamfi should have been fired for his actions in the video.

“If I were president, I would have sacked Sammy Gyamfi immediately,” Agyapong stated at an event on May 15, 2025. He felt the evidence was clear and no investigation was needed.

Agyapong condemned nepotism and favoritism in public service. He argued these practices hinder national development. “Nepotism and favoritism are killing this country,” he said.

He also highlighted challenges faced by young graduates seeking national service placements. Many struggle due to lack of connections, leading to unqualified individuals in key positions. This impedes progress, he emphasized.
