Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has warned President John Dramani Mahama. He urged him to avoid actions that could harm judicial independence.
In an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse, Mr. Ahiagbah criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He described their attempt to remove the Chief Justice as politically motivated.
He claimed the NDC is using legal loopholes for a partisan agenda. “This whole agenda has been cooked,” he said. He believes they are misusing the law for political gain.
“It’s not illegal; it’s political,” he added. He sees this as a threat to democracy.
Mr. Ahiagbah emphasized that judicial independence is vital to Ghana’s Constitution. He cautioned against politicizing the judiciary.
“If President Mahama cannot strengthen the judiciary, he should leave it alone,” he stated.
He highlighted that all branches of government are equally important in a democracy. Any interference with the judiciary threatens Ghana’s constitutional framework.
“Nothing will break if the Chief Justice stays in office,” he concluded.
