Don’t try cases in the media – Elvis Darko tells OSP

Elvis Darko, editor of Newscenta newspaper, has raised concerns. He is worried about the Office of the Special Prosecutor's (OSP) focus on media coverage.

Darko spoke on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV. He warned that this media-first approach could backfire.

He stated, “If an investigative body decides to do their work in the media, they risk a lot of reputational damage.”

He added that the media prefers information from the court. When statements come directly from the OSP, it can harm their reputation.

His comments follow the OSP summoning former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. Ofori-Atta is expected to appear before them on June 2, 2025.

While transparency is important in governance, Darko believes rushing to the press can be harmful. It may undermine both the case and the institution's credibility.
