Don’t nominate Ebi Bright as Mayor – Tema Youth to Mahama

A group of irate youth from Tema besieged the premises of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly on Sunday, April 13, demanding that President John Dramani Mahama appoint an indigene as the next Mayor of the city.

The demonstrators, in a display of discontent, lit car tyres and beat traditional drums to make their voices heard.

Their protest comes amid reports that former parliamentary candidate for Tema Central, Ebi Bright, is being considered for the mayoral position, despite earlier suggestions that Patience Ankamah Addo was the preferred choice.

Dora Sappor, a leading voice among the protestors, told journalists that the Tema youth and traditional authorities are strongly opposed to Ebi Bright’s nomination.

“We are here with a heavy heart. We heard they want to bring Ebi Bright as Mayor. It’s not going to happen. She wasn’t part of the process. We want an indigene; this is the plea of the traditional council. It’s not too much to ask from President Mahama,” she stated firmly.

The youth insisted that the wishes of the community and traditional leadership must be respected, warning that any attempt to impose a non-indigene would be met with continued resistance.
