Drumming and noise-making ban takes effect Today in parts of Accra

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced a ban on drumming and noise-making. This ban starts today, May 12, 2025. It will last until June 12, 2025. The ban applies to communities in the Ga Traditional Area.

Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the AMA’s Head of Public Affairs, signed the statement. He explained that the ban is important for peace and spiritual reflection. It also honors traditional practices of the Ga community.

“This period represents a sacred time of solemnity and preparation,” the statement said.

The directive affects all residents and institutions within AMA's jurisdiction. This includes areas around the AMA Head Office, Gamashie, Ablekuma West, and Kasoa.

The Ga Traditional Council supports this move by banning funeral rites during this time. This highlights the cultural significance of this period.

To ensure compliance, a task force will enforce the ban. This group includes AMA personnel, police officers, and representatives from traditional councils. Only officials with identification can implement this directive.

Faith-based institutions must hold services indoors without musical instruments or loudspeakers. Roadside evangelism and public preaching with sound systems are also prohibited. Loud music at pubs or mosques is not allowed either.

The Assembly urges residents to promote respect and religious tolerance. They should avoid any remarks or actions that could disrupt peace.
