Senior Partner at AB & David Africa, David Ofosu-Dorte, has criticized ECOWAS for appointing Nigerian President Bola Tinubu as its chair, blaming the decision for Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso’s exit from the bloc.
Speaking on Citi FM, he argued that Tinubu’s hardline stance on the Niger coup, including threats of military intervention, deepened regional tensions and triggered the withdrawals.
Ofosu-Dorte described the move as a strategic miscalculation, citing Tinubu’s inexperience as a factor in his confrontational approach.
He warned that Ghana faces economic fallout, as the departing Sahelian nations heavily rely on Ghana’s ports for trade.
The withdrawal, he noted, threatens Ghana’s trade volumes and regional economic stability.
