Economic Fighters League: Traoré’s revolution of Burkina Faso refreshing

The Economic Fighters League (EFL) is a Ghanaian Pan-Africanist movement. They praised Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership in Burkina Faso. They see his actions as a break from colonial economic structures.

Amodani Gariba, EFL’s Commander for Political Education, spoke on Channel One TV. He said Traoré's leadership is more than just a coup. It represents a shift toward economic sovereignty.

Gariba compared Burkina Faso's current situation to the optimism of the 1950s and 1960s. During that time, African leaders sought self-determination and economic independence.

He stated, “What is happening in Burkina Faso under Captain Ibrahim Traoré is a revolution.” He believes it is not merely a coup but an ongoing transformation.

Gariba noted that Burkina Faso is moving away from being an "enemy-held zone." This means they are regaining control over their resources and economic policies.

He remarked on Traoré’s efforts to change economic relations with France, an imperialist power. Gariba highlighted Traoré's push to nationalise key industries like gold mining.

He mentioned the importance of investing in local processing capabilities. This aims to reduce dependency on foreign entities.

Gariba said, “This is refreshing because Burkina Faso had given away much power to France for 60 years.” He sees this as a significant break from past practices.

He added that nationalising mines and pursuing industrialisation aligns with their goal of Economic Freedom for Africa. Gariba believes these actions will lead to long-term economic freedom for Burkina Faso.
