Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has called for the creation of a dedicated emergency fund to facilitate the swift reconstruction of school infrastructure damaged by natural disasters such as rainstorms and fires.
His proposal follows a recent fire that gutted the girls’ dormitory of Labone Senior High School in Accra, displacing students and causing significant property loss.
During a visit to assess the damage, the minister emphasized the need for a structured response mechanism to prevent prolonged disruptions to academic activities.
He assured that affected schools, including Labone SHS, Northern School of Business in Tamale, and a school in Akrokere in the Ashanti Region, would receive urgent intervention.
Haruna Iddrisu further stressed that integrating an emergency fund into the Ghana Education Service budget would ensure timely responses to such unforeseen crises.
