Private legal practitioner Godwin Edudzi Tameklo has revealed that memos and internal discussions within the Attorney-General’s department recommended discontinuing the prosecution of former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama.
However, he claims former Attorney-General Godfred Dame ignored these recommendations.
Speaking on TV3 on February 8, Tameklo criticized the alleged politicization of prosecutions, arguing that the case against Dr. Asiama was politically motivated.
His comments follow the withdrawal of all charges against Dr. Asiama by the current Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine.
The former BoG deputy governor had faced charges related to the collapse of UniBank and UT Bank since 2020.
The decision has sparked criticism, with journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni questioning whether the move sets a precedent that allows political figures to evade accountability when their party returns to power.
