Effutu NDC branch executives reject MCE nominee

A group of branch executives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Effutu Municipality has rejected Rev. Atta Mensah as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). They call the decision unjust and harmful to party unity.

At a press conference, 150 branch executives expressed their concerns. They described Rev. Atta Mensah's appointment as unfair. This is especially true after the rejection of Abraham Henry Arthur, the party’s Constituency Secretary. Arthur was initially nominated by the President but did not get enough votes from Assembly Members.

Frimpong Manso, Youth Organiser for the Ansaful Branch, led the protest. He acknowledged Rev. Atta Mensah's loyalty but questioned his impact compared to Henry Arthur. “While we respect Rev. Atta Mensah’s membership in the NDC, his contributions cannot be compared to those of Abraham Henry Arthur,” Manso said.

The group demands that Henry Arthur be re-nominated. They want to fully utilize the constitutionally mandated three attempts at confirmation. They believe skipping this process undermines democratic principles and risks disunity at the grassroots level.

They have called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and reverse this nomination. The group warns that allowing this nomination could fracture support for the party in Effutu Constituency.

Henry Arthur previously received only nine votes in favor and 17 against during his confirmation process, which was marked by tension and disorder.
