Election 2024: I’m happy with Oquaye committee’s report – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the 2024 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has praised the Oquaye Committee's report on the party’s electoral defeat.

The committee, led by former Speaker Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, presented its findings at an emergency meeting. This meeting took place on April 16 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. The 12-member committee was tasked with investigating why the NPP lost the presidency and its parliamentary majority.

The NPP was defeated by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and John Dramani Mahama. The party also saw a significant drop in parliamentary seats.

On April 23, during his "Thank You Tour," Dr. Bawumia spoke at NPP headquarters in Accra. He expressed satisfaction with the committee's work, stating it clarified many misconceptions about their loss.

"I’m very happy that Prof. Mike Oquaye’s elections review committee submitted their report," he said. "We have waited for this report for a long time." He added that he appreciated how timely it was.

Dr. Bawumia noted that the report addressed propaganda surrounding their defeat and included important recommendations for rebuilding the party. He emphasized implementing these recommendations to help regroup and re-strategize.

The NPP leadership plans to make the full report public at an appropriate time.
