Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka defended the raid on Dr. Ernest Addison's home. He called it a lawful operation under a valid court warrant.
On March 19, 2025, about 20 armed men raided Dr. Addison’s residence in Accra. Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, led the team. Some operatives were masked and carried AK-47 rifles. They disabled the home's CCTV system and demanded access to alleged "vaults."
Dr. Addison denied having any vaults or large sums of cash. Despite this, the team reportedly ransacked his property. They left with the CCTV monitor and control unit. No vaults or significant cash were found during the operation.
The incident faced widespread criticism from opposition members. A former central bank official called it "unprecedented and disturbing."
On June 3, 2025, Muntaka addressed Parliament about the operation. He insisted that it followed legal procedures properly. “An ex parte search warrant was filed before the High Court on March 12,” he stated. The search adhered to due process and complied with state laws.
Muntaka emphasized that it was conducted in front of Dr. Addison himself.
