Establish special courts to deal with narcotic cases - NACOC

Brig Gen Maxwell O. Mantey, the Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission, has proposed special courts for narcotic cases. He noted that many current cases involve tainted assets. These assets often deteriorate due to delays in court proceedings.

Timely convictions for drug traffickers could greatly impact their operations. This would allow the state to legally confiscate their properties. Brig Gen Mantey made this call during a visit to Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine.

He introduced himself and thanked Dr. Ayine for the support from his department. The DG expressed gratitude for the cooperation between their institutions. He emphasized that NACOC will continue to rely on the AG’s expertise in prosecutions.

They also discussed proposals to amend parts of the Narcotics Control Commission Act 1019, Act 2020. Dr. Ayine praised Brig Gen Mantey and his team for their efforts. He assured that the request for special courts would be considered and reiterated his commitment to support NACOC's mandate under Act 1019.
