Even the dead can be tried – Kumadoe to Ofori-Atta’s lawyers

Security consultant Richard Kumadoe has criticized the legal team of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. He believes their handling of the case with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) could harm reputations.

Kumadoe spoke on 3FM 92.7's Midday News on June 6. He warned that being flagged by law enforcement can lead to widespread scrutiny.

“Your name pops up all over the web,” he said. “Financial institutions, service providers, and border control get involved.” He added that this could complicate money movement and asset management.

He suggested that the legal team should have opted for dialogue instead of confrontation. This is especially important given the ongoing tension between Ofori-Atta’s camp and the OSP.

“This is not just about Ken Ofori-Atta,” he stated. “Names, families, and networks are implicated across borders.” He emphasized that his lawyers should have chosen engagement over confrontation.

Kumadoe dismissed claims that Ofori-Atta’s health issues should earn him leniency from investigators.

“For us investigators, we don’t care whether you are sick or not,” he said plainly. “You can be tried in absentia, even after death.”

As pressure mounts on Ofori-Atta’s defense, Kumadoe's comments highlight a broader concern. Reputational and legal damage could extend beyond national borders, affecting entire networks as well as individuals.
