Kwabena Adu Boahen, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, face serious charges. They are accused of stealing, defrauding by false pretenses, conspiracy to commit a crime, and money laundering. This involves an alleged diversion of GH¢49.1 million in state funds.
The charge sheet states that the couple worked with Mildred Donkor. She is a former banking relations officer. They also allegedly used Advantage Solutions Limited as a front for their activities. The theft involved falsified transactions and shell company operations.
Mr. Adu Boahen was arrested on March 20 at Kotoka International Airport. He had just returned from London. His wife was detained the next day when she visited EOCO offices about his arrest.
Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine confirmed the charges relate to financial irregularities. These involve a $7 million contract for a national cyber defense system. The accused are suspected of diverting state funds meant for national security into private accounts.
Investigations are ongoing as the state prepares for a full trial.
