Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson for President John Mahama, has defended Dr Johnson Asiama’s appointment as Governor of the Bank of Ghana, dismissing concerns raised by the Minority.
The opposition argues that Dr Asiama should refrain from official duties until his nomination is approved by the Council of State, citing procedural and reputational concerns, especially after his recent exoneration from UniBank and UT Bank-related charges.
Additionally, they have urged the IMF to scrutinize engagements with him.
However, Kwakye Ofosu insists Asiama is highly qualified, having previously served as Second Deputy Governor.
He dismissed the Minority’s stance as political theatrics, asserting that key financial stakeholders understand the situation and will not be swayed by opposition arguments.
