Fight against galamsey not bound by 120 days – DRIP coordinator

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is the National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP). He recently denied claims about former President John Dramani Mahama's promise regarding illegal mining.

Vanderpuye spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on May 8. He clarified that Mahama never promised to end galamsey in 120 days.

He stated, “It is not a fight that will end in 120 days.” Mahama only said he would tackle galamsey without a specific timeline.

Vanderpuye encouraged the public to evaluate anti-galamsey efforts based on commitment, not quick results. He emphasized the importance of supporting ongoing efforts to combat this issue.

His remarks come amid discussions about the effectiveness of the anti-galamsey campaign and its alignment with government performance.

In related news, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications, announced plans to repeal Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462. This law currently permits mining in forest reserves and aims to enhance environmental protection.
