Former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has come to the defence of the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, over his handling of the controversial flight saga linked to alleged drug trafficking and money laundering.
Addressing the matter on JoyPrime’s Prime Morning Show on Wednesday, April 9, Mr Oppong Nkrumah stated that Mr Kwakye-Ofosu did not deliberately mislead the public, but rather relayed incorrect information likely based on a flawed briefing.
"Look at this Air Med matter... I don't think he cooked up that story. I believe it was a brief he was given," the former minister said. “I will defend my brother Felix any day that he is not a liar... It is the information that he was given, and that information is not correct.”
He acknowledged the complexities of government communications, drawing from his own experience, and noted that spokespeople often have no way of independently verifying the accuracy of their briefings.
“You are only a government spokesperson, so you will mouth these words and then people will say this guy is a liar,” he explained, adding, “Felix is doing a very difficult job. I wish him well.”
Mr Oppong Nkrumah’s comments appear to contrast with the stance of some members of his own party, including Assin South MP Rev. Ntim Fordjour, who originally made the allegations about the two suspicious flights and accused Mr Kwakye-Ofosu of deliberately spreading falsehoods.
In response, Mr Kwakye-Ofosu previously dismissed the MP’s claims in a video statement, insisting the flights carried out legitimate functions and had no links to cocaine or illicit funds.
