The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has established student desks in 11 diplomatic missions to support Ghanaian students studying abroad.
Announcing the initiative on Facebook, Foreign Affairs Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that it aims to assist students with tuition payments, immigration issues, medical emergencies, academic verification, housing, evacuations, and legal aid.
The student desks have been set up in Abidjan, Beijing, Belgrade, Cotonou, Havana, Lomé, London, Moscow, Rabat, Rome, and Ottawa—countries with significant Ghanaian student populations.
Existing embassy staff have been reassigned to manage the initiative, ensuring no additional costs.
The ministry says this move addresses concerns from Ghanaian students, especially scholarship beneficiaries, who have struggled to access consular assistance.
More reforms are expected to enhance consular services.
