Former COCOBOD CEO, Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni, and businessman Seidu Agongo have been acquitted and discharged of all criminal charges brought against them by the State.
The decision follows a formal request by the State to withdraw the charges, communicated in court on Tuesday by State Attorney Enam Loh Mensah.
The two had faced 27 charges since 2018, including defrauding the state, causing financial loss of GH¢271.3 million, and breaching public procurement laws.
Allegations against them included the sale and distribution of substandard fertilizer that reportedly led to poor crop yields.
Throughout the trial, both denied the charges, describing the proceedings as politically motivated.
After a prolonged legal battle characterized by dramatic developments, the State’s withdrawal ends the case.
