Former DCE sweeps official residence empty

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Mr. Andrews Kojo Duodu, is very disappointed. He says the official DCE residence is in ruins. His predecessor left it in a terrible state.

Mr. Duodu reported that almost everything is missing or damaged. A recent inspection showed broken and rotten items throughout the bungalow. Essential items like chairs, mattresses, fridges, and air conditioners are either absent or unusable.

Curtains have been taken down, leaving rooms uninhabitable. This includes the bedrooms, hall, and kitchen. “It is shocking and disappointing to witness the level of neglect,” he told journalist Samuel Nana Tawiah.

He warned that the building could collapse if not renovated soon. Due to its poor condition, Mr. Duodu cannot stay there safely. Instead, he commutes from Mankessim or stays at a hotel.

He estimates that renovations will cost a lot of money. The District Assembly will need funds to replace missing cooking utensils and furniture. He believes this money could be better spent on schools, health centers, or roads.

Mr. Duodu stressed the need for a maintenance culture among public officials and citizens alike. He urged those living in government bungalows to care for public property properly.

“Going forward, I will ensure this building is maintained after renovation,” he said. “We must all understand that government property is our collective responsibility.”
