The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has made an urgent appeal. He wants Ghana’s power authorities to fix ongoing power outages. These outages disrupt lives and businesses in his constituency.
In a statement on April 17, 2025, Mr. Shaib described the electricity situation as dire. He warned that homes, clinics, and small businesses are suffering. Families are distressed and essential services are compromised.
“I wish to bring to the urgent attention of relevant authorities the persistent and unannounced power outages,” he stated. He criticized the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and GRIDCo for poor communication about maintenance or disruptions.
“These unplanned outages occur without notice from ECG or GRIDCo,” he noted. This causes widespread disruption to households, healthcare facilities, schools, and businesses. The consequences are severe; they hinder economic activity and endanger lives.
Mr. Shaib emphasized that while this is a national issue, Weija-Gbawe is heavily affected. Some communities have faced continuous power cuts lasting over four days.
“Despite several meetings with ECG officials, there has been no progress,” he said. Although GRIDCo promised intervention, residents still face unreliable electricity supply.
He concluded with a direct call to action for the Ministry of Energy, GRIDCo, and ECG. “We make a respectful but firm appeal for immediate action,” he urged. “The people of Weija-Gbawe deserve better.”
