GBA directive to Mahama on CJ suspension partisan, not legal – Suhuyini

Hamza Suhuyini, a member of the NDC communication team, criticized the Ghana Bar Association (GBA). He responded to their call for President John Dramani Mahama to reverse Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension. Suhuyini described the GBA's request as politically motivated and lacking legal merit.

On Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on April 30, he questioned the GBA's neutrality. This followed their statement on April 26, which labeled the President’s action unconstitutional. “I believe the President will not respond to the GBA,” he said.

Suhuyini noted that within 24 hours, the GBA changed its stance. He suggested this shift showed partisanship rather than legal reasoning. “The only reason for this quick U-turn is politics,” he added.

He defended the President’s actions as constitutional. “The President acted according to Article 146 of the Constitution,” he explained. He outlined that all steps taken were prescribed by law.

The GBA had previously urged the President to revoke Torkornoo's suspension. They argued it lacked a legal basis under Article 146(10) of the Constitution. The Association claimed there was no published regulation governing this presidential discretion, violating Article 296 of the Constitution.
