GFL boss slams gov't over delayed prosecution of alleged corrupt officials

The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Mr. Abraham Koomson, criticized the current government. He claims it has failed to prosecute individuals involved in corruption from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Mr. Koomson expressed disappointment over the freedom of those he believes committed financial crimes during the NPP era. Instead of facing justice, some are now openly criticizing the current government.

His comments followed a controversial memo from former National Signals Bureau (NSB) boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene. In this memo, Adu-Boahene alleged that over GH¢8 million was sent to opposition parties for election logistics and equipment.

He also claimed that the GH¢49 million he is accused of embezzling funded covert national security operations. Additionally, Adu-Boahene accused the Attorney-General of "malicious prosecution" against him.

In response to the memo, Mr. Koomson dismissed Adu-Boahene's claims as "baseless." He insisted that Adu-Boahene should already be in jail. “He should have been in jail by now instead of talking,” Mr. Koomson stated.

The GFL Secretary-General called for an investigation into missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). He blamed ongoing power outages on mismanagement and corruption within ECG.

Mr. Koomson urged the government to hold those responsible accountable. He specifically mentioned Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, a former Board Chair of ECG, saying he should also face consequences for his role in mismanagement.

“He should be behind bars instead of being a loudmouth critic,” he said.

In conclusion, Mr. Koomson urged swift investigations into financial misconduct. He emphasized that all individuals causing financial loss to the state must be prosecuted, regardless of their political affiliations. He made these statements during an interview on Tema-Ahotor FM.
