Emmanuel Akwettey, Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), has called for an independent investigation. This follows serious allegations from Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB). He claimed that GH₵49 million was misused.
“These are not mere rumours,” Akwettey said on JoyNews' Newsfile. His comments came after Adu-Boahene revealed a memo about money being diverted to political interests.
Akwettey noted that GH₵8.3 million went to one party and GH₵5.1 million to presidential aides. “We cannot simply shrug this off,” he emphasized.
He urged the Attorney-General and security agencies to investigate every cedi mentioned. “Failing to respond decisively will cost us public trust,” he warned.
Akwettey stressed that allowing these accusations to linger could undermine trust in national security and the rule of law. He called for careful handling of the probe without political interference.
“Let us ensure this process is neither politicised nor hurried,” he stated. The Ghanaian people deserve clarity and accountability, he added. Only then can we move forward with confidence.
