The Ghana Union Movement (GUM) has denied involvement in a planned demonstration. This protest is against the suspension and possible removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo.
Reports say the protest is scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2025. Several political groups are allegedly backing it. However, GUM insists it has no role in this event.
Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews leads GUM. He is also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom. In an interview, he stated he was unaware of any meetings about the protest.
He mentioned that GUM’s Communications Director spoke with Nana B from the NPP. However, these discussions happened without his consent or knowledge.
Rev. Andrews emphasized that due process must be followed regarding petitions against the Chief Justice. He said if investigations find her guilty, then appropriate action should follow.
"But without an investigation, there is no basis for any demonstration," he asserted. He reaffirmed GUM’s commitment to democracy and rule of law.
He urged that grievances be addressed through legal channels instead of protests. Additionally, he instructed all GUM members to avoid participating in the demonstration.
He reiterated that the party does not support or endorse this planned protest. Last week, the NPP issued a statement about some parties agreeing to stage a protest over the Chief Justice's situation.
Rev. Andrews spoke on Lawson TV during this interview.
