Philip Appiah Kubi, known as Roman Fada, leads the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP). He praised Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for introducing a new chip-embedded passport.
Roman Fada called this move innovative. He believes it enhances the government's digitalization efforts.
Mr. Ablakwa launched the new passport at a ceremony in Accra on April 28, 2025. He announced that the Passport Office will stop issuing old biometric passports.
During the event, Mr. Ablakwa presented Chief of Staff Julius Debrah with his chip-embedded passport.
The new passport features 175 security elements. In contrast, the old version had only 32 features.
This initiative aims to improve passport security and eliminate intermediaries. It also promotes transparency in the process. The upgraded passports were launched on December 2, 2024, replacing older biometric versions.
These passports meet international standards and highlight Ghana’s culture through Adinkra symbols.
Roman Fada expressed his appreciation for this initiative. He believes it will significantly support the government’s digitalization drive and promote development.
