Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Apaak supports the government's investment in TVET.
He believes Ghana cannot achieve its development goals without investing in TVET.
Dr. Apaak stated that the stigma around TVET is over. Strong support for TVET is now essential.
In a social media post, he said, “We can’t meet our developmental aspirations without investing and mainstreaming TVET.” He added that students choosing TVET are no longer seen as unintelligent. He emphasized that John Dramani Mahama will prioritize TVET education.
Dr. Apaak's comments follow President Mahama's call to improve TVET in Ghana. The President spoke during the presentation of the National Education Forum's Final Report.
He stated, “We must elevate and transform Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). For too long, it has been treated as a second-tier option.”
President Mahama promised to build modern, well-resourced TVET institutions nationwide. These institutions will align with sectors like agro-processing, green energy, manufacturing, construction, and digital services.
He also mentioned forming strong partnerships with industry to ensure training leads to jobs or entrepreneurship.
