The 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic has ushered in a new generation of leaders, with four Members of Parliament under the age of 35 proving that youth is no barrier to governance.

These young lawmakers have made their mark by unseating seasoned politicians and championing transformative causes. Here are three rising stars shaping Ghana’s legislative landscape:

Millicent Yeboah Amankwah (32) – MP for Sunyani West

Millicent Yeboah Amankwah made history by defeating long-time MP Ignatius Baffour Awuah in the 2024 elections, securing 26,828 votes to his 19,716. A graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a BA in Economics, she previously served as the SRC Women’s Commissioner.

Beyond politics, Millicent is a child rights advocate and philanthropist, leading the Success Initiative Consult (SIC) to support underprivileged communities. Her victory represents a new chapter for Sunyani West and a beacon of youthful leadership.

Issah Atta (32) – MP for Sagnarigu
Issah Atta’s landslide victory in Sagnarigu saw him win 74.38% of the vote, unseating NPP’s Felicia Tetteh. A chartered accountant with an MBA in Accounting and Finance, Issah is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Ghana.

His journey to Parliament was marked by determination, having defeated long-serving MP Alhassan Bashir Fuseini in the 2023 NDC primaries. With a strong academic background and grassroots support, Issah is poised to be a formidable force in Parliament.

Eric Edem Agbana (33) – MP for Ketu North

Eric Edem Agbana stormed into Parliament with an overwhelming 87% of the vote in Ketu North, leaving his NPP rival, Enoch Amegbletor, far behind. A triple-degree holder from the University of Ghana, he previously served as SRC President and co-founded the United Volunteers Network, focusing on rural education.

Recognized as one of Ghana’s top 60 emerging young leaders, Agbana’s presence in Parliament signals a fresh era of dynamic leadership for Ketu North.

These young MPs are not just making headlines; they are redefining leadership and governance in Ghana’s political landscape.
