Ghana secures $2.6m Japanese grant for Human Resource Development Scholarship

Ghana and Japan have strengthened their partnership. They signed an agreement for Japanese Grant Assistance. This is under the “Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship” (JDS). The total amount is Four Hundred and Two Million Japanese Yen, about USD 2.6 million.

The agreement was formalized on Monday, June 2, 2025, in Accra. It involved an Exchange of Notes between Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan. Ambassador Ramses Joseph Cleland signed for Ghana. The Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Yoshimoto Hiroshi, represented Japan.

Ambassador Cleland emphasized the JDS's importance for Ghana’s youth. He said it equips them with advanced skills and knowledge. He called the scholarship a strategic investment in human capital. He also noted that the grant reflects strong cooperation between both nations.

Ambassador Hiroshi praised Ghana’s commitment to the program. Since its launch in 2012, JDS has helped build future leaders in Ghana. He reaffirmed Japan’s dedication to quality education and long-term development support.

The Japanese Development Scholarship allows Ghanaian professionals to study at Japanese universities. This aims to enhance their administrative and policy-making skills across key sectors.
