Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George has announced plans to present a specialized bill in Parliament aimed at curbing misinformation and disinformation in Ghana.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, April 9, the Ningo Prampram MP said the proposed legislation will create a firm legal framework to guide law enforcement and protect public discourse.
Once passed, offenders will face strict penalties, with the Minister warning that no one will be spared. He stressed the need for collective responsibility in combating the spread of false information, urging Ghanaians to be mindful in their communication.
The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts across Africa to address the growing threat of misinformation, often driven by politics, low media literacy, and emerging technologies.
Civil society groups like the MFWA are already active in this space through training and advocacy.
