Former Deputy Finance Minister Kwaku Kwarteng is worried about Ghana's administration.
He believes that, unlike other countries, Ghana relies heavily on borrowing.
Leaders have borrowed money and spent it recklessly since independence.
This has prevented the country and its citizens from achieving prosperity.
Kwarteng stated, “We do not misuse our own revenue; we borrow instead. Since independence, our government style has been to borrow and award contracts. This leads to kickbacks and economic instability. Entrepreneurs struggle to work, and production remains low.”
He added, “We cannot continue like this; growth is impossible under these conditions. We must draw a line and change course. Other nations have succeeded; why can’t we? Our entrepreneurs could create jobs for the youth.”
Kwarteng expressed frustration: “We haven’t succeeded because government interests hinder progress. Politicians often start with good intentions but face strong opposition. Many give up and join in the corruption.”
To fix this situation, he believes Ghana needs radical leadership.
“We need leaders who will confront the status quo,” he said.
“It’s time for people willing to bring prosperity to Ghana.”
