President John Dramani Mahama will address the nation today. The speech is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7. He will update Ghanaians on his administration's 120-day social contract.
Mahama was sworn in on January 7. Today marks exactly 120 days in office. During this time, he promised to deliver key commitments from the 2024 NDC Manifesto.
Out of 28 pledges made, 19 have been fulfilled. Two are currently in progress, while seven remain outstanding.
Some outstanding promises include:
- Reviewing taxes on vehicles
- Starting a 24-hour economy policy
- Banning illegal mining
- Reviewing the Customs Amendment Act of 2020
- Introducing a bill for government scholarship awards
Other promises involve investigating vigilante elements in state security agencies and reopening investigations into by-election killings.
On Tuesday, May 6, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer spoke to Citi News. He is the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC. He stated that Mahama has delivered on most promises and is committed to fulfilling the rest.
Tanko noted that Ghanaians are largely satisfied with the administration's performance so far. "He promised to deliver within 120 days," he said. "Ghanaians are applauding him for almost all he promised."
He added that Ghanaians can see some promises in action without needing to promote them further.
