Ghanaians elected a far more honest president – Spio-Garbrah hails Mahama’

Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, praised President John Mahama's leadership. He described the current government under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as transformative for Ghana.

In a statement titled “The Great NDC and Ghana under a Great President Make Ghana Shine Again,” he linked recent positive economic indicators to integrity and accountability in government operations.

Dr. Spio-Garbrah noted that the Bank of Ghana's excellent results stem from Ghanaians electing a more honest President on December 7th last year.

He commended President Mahama for holding himself and his administration accountable. He emphasized that the tight 120-day deadline for key targets has made a real difference.

According to Spio-Garbrah, swift nominations and effective coordination among economic institutions have stabilized Ghana’s economy. He highlighted better decisions by the President and new NDC appointees as signs of improved governance.

He also praised coordination between the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana. This collaboration has contributed to better economic management.

Spio-Garbrah lauded the establishment of GoldBod, which oversees gold exports. He called it “a wise decision” that significantly boosts the nation’s economic performance.

He contrasted the current administration with the previous one, noting less corruption among government officials. He suggested that reduced corruption has helped improve Ghana’s situation.

He acknowledged favorable global market conditions for major exports like gold and cocoa. However, he stressed that good governance at home is crucial for reaping these benefits.

Ending on a patriotic note, he congratulated all Ghanaians, especially President Mahama, Finance Minister, BoG Governor, and GoldBod CEO.
