Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Obiri Boahen, has urged critics, including members of his own party, to allow President John Dramani Mahama the freedom to make security appointments without undue backlash.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the private legal practitioner emphasized that the president, as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, has the constitutional authority to appoint or reassign security personnel based on national interest.
“Let’s be honest—President Mahama has every right to appoint or unappoint security officials. He has access to intelligence that informs his decisions. People should stop attacking him over this,” he stated.
Obiri Boahen also dismissed concerns from the NPP, arguing that similar appointments were made under previous administrations without such controversy.
“What exactly is the NPP complaining about? The president has done nothing wrong in reassigning security heads,” he added, urging fairness in political discourse.
