Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board, defended his cash donation to Evangelist Mama Pat.
He described the gesture as kind and part of his lifelong habit of helping others.
Gyamfi also apologized to his political party members who felt hurt by his actions. He acknowledged that they often lack similar opportunities despite their hard work for the party.
In a statement on May 11, 2025, he said, “This was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being. I thought I was acting in private and did not expect it to become public. That is unfortunate and regrettable.”
Gyamfi faced significant criticism from party members, opposition parties, and the middle class.
Many believe he should act more like a public servant and avoid such displays in public.
Critics warn that his actions could harm the NDC's reputation after their success in the 2024 elections.
In response to the backlash, Gyamfi acknowledged the criticisms over the past day.
He reiterated that his intention was simply kindness towards another person.
He expressed regret for any pain caused to his comrades and offered sincere apologies.
Gyamfi thanked those who supported him during this time and emphasized his commitment to serving society through public office.
He remains focused on fulfilling his responsibilities assigned by President Akufo-Addo.
Finally, he wished everyone a blessed Sunday and a Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers.
