Minority Leader and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has revealed that government representatives personally appealed to the Minority to refrain from questioning Greater Accra Regional Minister nominee, Linda Akweley Ocloo, during her vetting on January 28, 2025.

Ocloo’s unusually brief vetting, lasting less than 10 minutes without any scrutiny, has sparked debate.

Addressing the matter in a Ghana Broadcasting Corporation interview, Afenyo-Markin explained that the Minority’s silence was a direct response to a plea from government officials.

They reportedly cited Ocloo’s personal circumstances, emphasizing that as a widow, she might not withstand intense scrutiny.

“They came begging that the woman could not stand the scrutiny,” Afenyo-Markin disclosed, adding that since she met the constitutional criteria under Article 78, the Minority saw no need to challenge her nomination.
